I suspect that Disney is trying to capitalize on that potential nostalgia and an Internet meme from about two years ago. The first Ice Age came out in 2002, putting it right in the nostalgia window for people currently in their 20s and 30s. One of the most important questions that should be asked when analyzing any art is “what was the point?” In this case, I don’t think there is one. They are soon reunited with their old friend, Buck (Simon Pegg), who needs their help in stopping an old foe. While looking for a new bachelor pad, the possum pair stumble back into the Lost World, a place where dinosaurs still live under the ice. So yeah, Crash and Eddie learn the values of friendship while being taught how to survive in the wild, on their own, by Buck and Zee (Justina Machado), a Zorilla who was part of Buck’s superhero film during the first time Orson invaded the Lost World.Crash (Vincent Tong) and Eddie (Aaron Harris) are feeling a bit smothered by their older sister, Ellie (Dominique Jennings), so they decide to strike out on their own.

In contrast, Buck wants every species to live together in peace and harmony. A highly intelligent protoceratops named Orson (Utkarsh Ambudkar) wants to take over The Lost World in a “survival of the fittest” mode. Great news, because that means the Possum duo can hang out with Buck again, who has problems of his own. They want to prove him wrong and, while “being free,” accidentally land back into The Lost World. It’s the Superman IV: The Quest for Peace of animated sequels, with a massive dip in quality from the last movie in favor of quick and cheap animation, coupled with a quick and cheap story.Īnd by “quick and cheap,” I mean “we’ve all seen it before.” Crash (Vincent Tong) and Eddie (Aaron Harris) are tired of being told what to do by Ellie and decide to run away from the pack after Manny (Sean Kenin Elias-Reyes) tells them they would not survive on their own. There are times in which you see characters with unrendered edges as they run from the “CGI Matte Painted” frame. None of the animated characters walk inside the frame fluidly and aren’t adequately rotoscoped. After a pretty decent 2D animated sequence where Ellie (Dominique Jennings) recaps the events of the past five films, the movie jarringly switches to 3D, and the budget constraints immediately become apparent. I’ll admit I thought John Leguizamo voiced Sid, but he didn’t. Aside from Simon Pegg, none of the original cast returns.
